On Dec. 6, Washington hosted its annual Christmas boat parade on the Washington Channel, with spectators enjoying the more than 60 vessels decked out in lights and decorations, followed by a firework display.
The parade is a yearly tradition at the D.C. Wharf, which began in 1992 with just a small handful of boats and has turned into a Washington holiday institution. Its popularity has continued to grow in the years since it began.
Alongside the parade and fireworks, there was an ice skating rink, pictures with Santa Claus, s’mores and hot chocolate vendors, and lots of holiday cheer.
“It’s nice to see the community get so involved and come together for this kind of a celebration,” sophomore Colin Grip said.
Despite the frigid cold, many GW students made the trek out to the Wharf to enjoy the show alongside friends and embrace the Christmas season.
