On the first Monday of November, The Right Angle released its first-ever series of articles to a mix of harsh criticism, firm support, and genuine critique. It is important to reflect when starting something new. There were some issues, but the launch was otherwise a significant success.
Many members of the GWU community, which stands as one of the most liberal college campuses in the country, according to Niche, are unwilling even to hear out conservative voices, which was reflected in many students’ reactions to seeing the launch of The Right Angle.
Paramount of this was a series of mostly non-credible threats and the suggestion of self-harm directed at the leadership and supporters of The Right Angle, mostly originating on the anonymous campus social media site, Fizz.

Fizz’s GWU site moderation would end up taking down all The Right Angle’s content alongside all comments, with all the threatening ones having been taken down almost immediately. Still, they were unable to be reached for comment on the exact reasoning for the takedown.
At the same time, many across the GWU community expressed their support for the paper, and many even reached out wanting to write as either full-fledged or guest piece writers. Those interested should follow this link.
During a Kogan Plaza tabling event to raise money and write cards on Veterans Day, many students came up to the GW College Republicans table to thank them for creating and writing the paper in addition to giving suggestions for future articles and stylistic choices – something greatly appreciated by The Right Angle’s editorial board.
The launch, while successful, was not flawless. During the transcription of articles into an Instagram template, along with other social media elements, a few grammatical and spelling issues occurred.
However, thanks to our dedicated readers, supporters, and even critics, these errors were addressed and fixed almost immediately. Additionally, a new Instagram template has been created that will prevent any issues from happening again.
The Right Angle’s editorial board wants to thank all of its writers, supporters, and even critics for their help in Making Campus Journalism Great Again.
