On Friday, Feb. 27, the College Republican club held its annual “Pie a Republican” event to help raise money for veteran causes.
The Republicans set up a table in Kogan in the afternoon, allowing students and visitors to throw a plate of shaving cream at a Republican club member of their choice for only $5.
With over 3 dozen pies being thrown, the event was a resounding success for the club, managing to raise over $200 for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in just under 3 hours.
“As the grandson of two veterans, this is extra special to me, making sure that we always take care of those who have served our country,” CRs Director of Membership Parker Malphrus told The Right Angle.
The participants were a mix of College Republican club members, friends of members, supporters of veteran causes, and even those who do not support Republican efforts on campus but still support veterans.
“So we’re all for bipartisanship but some people, you know, sometimes some people get upset…” CRs Chairman Kieran Laffey joked before College Democrats Chairwoman Emily-Anne Santiago pied him in a humorous act of bipartisan support for veterans.
