Today, Nov. 3rd, the George Washington University College Republican Club launched its own newspaper, The Right Angle, to create a platform for conservative voices across campus. The Right Angle seeks not only to empower conservative student authors but to promote truth through the power of the press. The George Washington University College Republicans believe that amplifying conservative voices is essential to fostering open discussion and discourse. To seek truth requires diversity of opinion, and through this publication, George Washington College Republicans aim to do exactly that.
The goal of The Right Angle is not to antagonize the campus left, nor is it to overtake the other publications as self-proclaimed unbiased news sources for all campus events. It stands, instead, as an opportunity. An opportunity to allow conservative voices on campus to be shared openly, in a way that did not previously exist. A platform to challenge norms and think beyond popular narratives and conformity.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk has highlighted the necessity of respectful dialogue and the courage to stand firm in one's convictions. For far too long, conservative students have let their voices go unheard, feeling both outnumbered and isolated, while in reality, many of their peers share those same beliefs– but are merely too afraid to voice such viewpoints. Rather than back down in silence, The Right Angle aims to provide a place to let conservative voices be heard. Through this publication, the College Republicans are doubling down in their efforts to strengthen the conservative movement on campus.
Furthermore, Republican and right-wing students, faculty, student organizations, and events have been derided by current campus publications, while Democrats and the far left have been widely praised. There is an ever-present and strikingly obvious bias against conservative voices in current campus publications, both through content choices and outright stances.
The freedom of the press stands as one of our nation's most important virtues. Without it, the country we love so much might not exist today. The Right Angle brings a much-needed breath of truth, liberty, and patriotism to campus and Washington, DC. The Right Angle aims to unite conservative students and equip them to stand for their beliefs on a campus where they often face intense scrutiny and opposition. The Right Angle stands as a testament to the enduring power of free thought and open conversation, inviting all students and faculty to join in our movement, to voice their opinions, stand for truth, think deeply, and renew a spirit of dialogue in the heart of our nation’s capital.
